Stephen has been with William Duncan + Co for over 36 years, joining the firm directly from school in 1983. He trained and qualified with the firm, firstly as an Accounting Technician, then as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.

Stephen was appointed an Associate in 1997, becoming a partner in January 2000. Stephen’s clients are located across the country, from Dumfries and Galloway to the Highlands, and all points in between in West and Central Scotland! He has an extensive commercial client portfolio, to whom he provides accountancy, taxation, strategic and business advice across a diverse range of clients including manufacturing, retail, professional services and construction; these range from sole traders, partnerships, limited companies and – as one of the firm’s Responsible Individuals (RI) – appointments as statutory auditor. This commercial experience transfers extremely well to the specialist sectors he looks after in the firm..
Stephen heads the firm’s Healthcare team which provides high quality accountancy and taxation services to GP’s, Consultants and other Healthcare professionals .

He has regularly assisted NHS Education for Scotland by presenting finance- related workshops at Practice Managers conferences and also to Practice Manager/Trainee Practice Manager events/workshops (Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Arran, and Dumfries and Galloway Practice Manager Groups) and has assisted various Banks in their understanding of the GP sector. Stephen also leads the firm’s charity/not-for-profit team, providing Audit and Independent Examination services and related advice to incorporated and unincorporated charities and SCIO’s. He is an affiliate member of the Association of Independent Charity Examiners and has considerable “hands-on” experience in the charity sector, being a member of the finance committee of The Marr Trust, a Director and Treasurer of Heartstart (Ayrshire and Arran) and a former Trustee of Live@Troon.

He is a Trustee of the firm’s own Charity, the William Duncan + Co Charitable Trust and also a past Secretary and Treasurer of the Ayrshire Association of Chartered Accountants. He is a past Chairman of Troon Round Table, and member of Troon 41 Club.

Stephen lives in Troon with his wife and three children, and enjoys cycling, travel, “developing” his interest in photography, and relaxes by playing drums in a local rock band, performing concerts to raise money for local charities.
